Jelly Triangle consistently strives to be on the cutting edge of the digital world. Over the past several months, we've been slowly letting you know that SSL certificates are going to be required on all websites. Well, the issue is now starting to affect all users, including you and your clients!

The Issue

The latest update for Firefox labels your Joomla Administrator page as an "unsecure login." Firefox will actually do this for any login page without an SSL certificate (i.e. your website address does NOT start with https://). This is a new security measure being implemented by Internet browsers to better protect us from dangerous sites.

What Does this Mean?

Firefox won't save the password if your site is NOT secure. This means, you will have to type in your password every time you log in. A lot of our clients’ sites (and all of our testing servers) do not have SSL certificates - so we are forced to type our passwords in over and over again. Jelly Triangle's sites and testing server will be moving over to SSL in the very near future (we have a new site design to finish first).

Contact us if you would like to add an SSL certificate to your site. Doing so will:

  1. Protect your site and its visitors
  2. Secure the info sent to you by your visitors (via forms, etc.)
  3. Reassure visitors that your site is safe
  4. Come with a $250,000 payout if your SSL is hacked
  5. Improves your ranking on Google

An SSL is a MUST if you have any forms that collect personal information or if you have you have a store that takes payments. Contact us to get your SSL setup. Within the next year, all browsers will implement these warnings and lock outs. People will soon start to avoid any site that is not secure (you've probably been wary after already seeing a warning message pop up).

The cost for an SSL certificate is reasonable - $150 USD per year and a one-time setup fee of $95 USD per domain. Small price to pay to show your clients you're a legitimate and reputable business!

In the meantime, you can work around this by changing your settings in the browser preferences.

  1. Open a new tab and type the following into the address bar: about:config
  2. You will see a message that says "This might void your warranty." Ignore the message and click “I accept the risk!”
  3. At the top of the page, you will see a Search bar
  4. Search for: signon.autofillForms.http
  5. Only one entry should come up. The Value should be set to “false”
  6. Double-click the word “false” and it will change to “true”
  7. Close the tab - you’re good to go. Don't change any other settings!

If you do not feel safe making these changes, stop by our office with your laptop (give us a quick call 519-624-8888 to let us know you're coming!) and one of us will make the change for you.
